What it's like to play

Enmeshed is a browser game about taking networks down. You sit at a fake terminal, connect to a mesh called Gilgamesh, and work through sixteen stages that end the same way: the health bar hits zero and the mesh goes offline.

The map is a seeded SVG of nodes and links, not a canvas. Click a node or a link to fire the armed tool; the toolbar holds eight, from crash and cut to reroute and mine, plus unlimited info. Most contracts hand you five uses of each. Packets route every 500 ms along A* paths, two per node, and health is live packets against capacity: a 5×5 practice mesh holds six nodes, the final 55×35 mesh holds 481. Push health under 50 percent and the mesh crashes.

Order matters more than damage. Two stages want data intercepted first, one wants 1,000 MeshCoins mined; cross the crash threshold before those targets are met and the banner reads FAILED instead of OFFLINE. Seeded generation means a retry rebuilds the same mesh, so a bad plan can be corrected rather than rerolled.

The friction is real. There is no touch handling and no viewport tag, so panning needs arrow keys and zoom needs a wheel: phones are out. A misclicked tool cannot be undone, and the widest maps shrink node targets to a dozen pixels. The toolbar is icon-only, with descriptions only on hover.

Verdict: Still, the puzzle is sharp. Reading a mesh, picking the links worth severing, then watching traffic die is more satisfying than most clickers. Bring a mouse and a desktop.
